ビクトリア市と盛岡市は1985年5月23日（ビクトリア時間）に姉妹都市提携をしました。2011年の東日本大震災の際には、ビクトリア市からは多くの温かい支援と励ましが届けられました。その感謝を込めて、姉妹都市提携30周年の際に盛岡ビクトリア友好協会からビクトリア市にこの鐘が寄贈されたのです。

 

今年で姉妹都市提携をして40周年を迎えます。先月はビクトリア市において、両市長が姉妹都市提携の継続を約束する調印式が行われました。新渡戸稲造博士のご縁によって始まったこの姉妹都市提携は、両市民の強い繋がりで今まで受け継がれてきました。今後も先人が築いてきたこの架け橋を大事に、姉妹都市交流を続けてまいります。

In this spring, ‘Friendship Bell’ in Victoria, Canada was relocated from Inner Horbour to Quadra Park. Victoria City Hall made a short movie of the relocation, so please check out the video above and we hope you enjoy it!

 

Victoria and Morioka signed for a twin city affiliation on May 23 (Victoria time), 1985. After the 3.11 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami in 2011, we received so many heartwarming support and encouragement from Victoria. To show our appreciation, Morioka-Victoria Friendship Society donated the bell on the occasion of the 30^th anniversary of twin city affiliation.

 

This year marks the 40^th anniversary of our twinning. Last month, a signing ceremony was held in Victoria with the two mayors of both cities. This twin city affiliation, which was initiated by Dr. Inazo Nitobe, has been carried on by the strong ties between the citizens of both cities. We will continue to cherish this bridge that our predecessors have built and continue our twin city exchange for many years to come.
